Child’s pose, known as Balanasa in Sanskrit, is a yoga pose with many benefits. This resting pose is a very easy shape to form.
Be mindful in the pose.
- Start by kneeling on the floor with big toes touching, then sit back on your heels.
- Take your knees a hip distance apart so you can bend forward resting your stomach between your thighs.
- Lengthen your tail bone towards the floor to stretch your lower back.
- Extend your arms out along the floor, widen across your shoulders and allow the neck to soften.
- Rest your forehead on the floor, using a pillow or blanket for support if you are unable to comfortably reach.
- The gentle pressure applied between the eyebrows (the third eye) calms and soothes the brain and relaxes the frontal lobe, quietening any busy thoughts.
Relax, breathe deeply and slowly, allow the mind to quieten. Stay in the pose for one minute or longer
